The Rundle Street Ticket Machines are a very successful attempt to shift the perception of street art in Adelaide for both viewers and creators. My goal was to completely remove the graffiti element by using alternate materials and presenting the artwork in a unique location. By using digital technology to apply the artwork as opposed to spray paint and markers I was immediately able to differentiate this project from vandalism. I chose to apply the artwork to ticket machines rather than walls in an attempt to highlight that ‘street’ doesn’t equal ‘wall’ and that with a little lateral thinking the opportunities to truly integrate art and design into public life greatly increase.
